From Mint Hill, the closest Local Concrete office is on Piedmont Row in south Charlotte's SouthPark area. Quick drive — twenty-five minutes if traffic's light. We made the trip after spending two weeks looking at their Instagram trying to figure out why a concrete company had better branding than most software companies. Walking into the Piedmont Row office was the first time we'd been inside a home-service operation that looked more like a startup than a contractor. Two people on laptops. One person on a phone call with a customer, pulling up the customer's full job history on a screen mid-call. Every screen, the same dashboard. The dashboard is Lowkly. They built it themselves.

Phones in the truck, not laptops in the office

Lowkly is a phone-first PWA. That means every Local Concrete salesperson, dispatcher, and crew lead does their work from a phone. The Mint Hill or south Charlotte sales rep doesn't need to drive back to the office to enter notes after a quote. He enters them in the truck on his phone. Photos he takes at the site upload directly to the job record. Customer texts route through Twilio into the same dashboard. The office is for back-office processing — accounting, leadership review, marketing — and not much else. We watched a sales rep at a job site near Mint Hill update a quote and re-send it to a customer in under two minutes. That used to be a half-day round trip. Now it's a thumb-tap.

Audit logs on every record

Audit logs are not a feature most concrete shops have ever considered. Lowkly has them everywhere. Every job record shows who created it, who modified it, when, what changed. Same for quotes, invoices, customer records, sub assignments. We asked the owner why a concrete contractor would care about audit logs. His answer was: liability. If a customer in Mint Hill claims a quote total was different two weeks ago, the audit log settles it. If a sub claims he was paid less than agreed, the audit log shows the agreed amount and the payment record. If an employee makes a change he shouldn't have, the audit log catches it. None of this matters until it matters, and when it matters, it matters a lot. Standard SaaS guarantee at a concrete shop. Unheard of.

Role-based access, locked down

Lowkly enforces six roles: OWNER, ADMIN, MANAGER, OFFICE_STAFF, SALES_REP, and VIEWER. A SALES_REP can see his own leads and quotes but not company financials. OFFICE_STAFF can see all jobs in their location but cannot delete records. MANAGER can edit but cannot change role assignments. ADMIN can manage users but cannot pull money out of Stripe Connect. OWNER can do anything. For a Mint Hill rep covering east Charlotte, this means he never accidentally sees what he shouldn't, never accidentally deletes what he can't recover, and his access is portable across the company. Permissions sound boring until you've watched a contractor lose two months of work because the wrong person had delete rights.

How this generalizes past concrete

A Mint Hill landscaper or HVAC shop with a single owner-operator doesn't need this depth of role control on day one. But the day they hire their second person, they do. Most concrete shops realize this two or three hires in and then have to retrofit a permissions system onto whatever tools they're using. Lowkly built it in from the start because the underlying team was already running multiple Charlotte locations when the platform was first stood up. The benefit for any trade looking at this from outside concrete is that the multi-employee, multi-location problems are already solved. The owner of a one-person Mint Hill plumbing shop on Lowkly today is ready for hire number five by default.

Bottom line

Twenty minutes from Mint Hill, fifteen minutes on a video walkthrough — that's the cost of seeing if this works for your trade.
